Chowpatti Beach is a natural collecting point for street children. Here they are exploited as cheap labour, running games stalls and pushing children in carts. They also are prey to the sex and massage trade and gang activities. As a result, Chowpatti has always been a focus for Salaam Balak Trust.

Our Chowpatty Centre was started in 1991. From a patch of sand on the beach, we were invited into the space behind a canteen at Chowpatty Beach. We now have our own shed-Centre housed behind the Jawahar Bal Bhavan.
