Salaam Bombay! was an Oscar nominated
film made by Mira Nair in 1988.
The film was made using real street
children who were trained to act in a theatre workshop organized by Barry
John. A total of 28 children became the core of the film. Shafi Syed, who
portrayed the main character won the Children’s National Award for his
powerful performance as 12 year old Krishna.
Anita Kanwar, Nana Patekar, and Raghubir
Yadav all well known and professional actors worked together with the
street children in order to make a powerful film about street life in
Bombay. |
