Salaam Baalak Trust was born in 1988
with a portion of the proceeds from the film "Salaam Bombay!" by Mira
Nair. Salaam Baalak Trust aims to give street children choices and a
chance to experience the joys of childhood; joys they had forfeited in
order to survive on the streets. Activities now include education,
shelter, creative activities, vocational guidance, income generation
projects and sports.
The Salaam Baalak Trust has individually
run centers in Delhi, Mumbai and Bhubhaneshwar. This Website focuses on
the activities in Mumbai. The Trust began its work with little idea that
it would become such an essential entity on the streets and has
continually provided services to street children since 1989. Since its
inception, the Salaam Baalak Trust has provided services to more than 5000
children in Mumbai alone, with an annual average of 565 children. Over
these years, the street children have themselves shaped our vision. As
their trust in us increases so do their requests and we will continue to
provide them as many choices as we can. We hope to establish lasting
relationships with like-minded individuals and organizations -
Relationships that will embolden us to move ahead with confidence.
Relationships that will provide more choices to the street children who so
richly deserve it!
HOW YOU CAN HELP
We rely on donations to run our activities. Our administrative costs are
extremely low as we rely on volunteers. With our children's’ successes, we
have to keep our commitment to fulfilling their dreams and aspirations.
80G tax exemption is available.
GIVE OPPORTUNITY: We
need jobs, training schemes, residences. If you or your organization can
provide an opportunity to one of our street children, let us know. Also
training schemes at your organizations go a long way in giving our
children respect and self confidence so that they can excel in their
future.
VOLUNTEER: Committed
persons who are willing to develop our educational aids and who can give
us commitment, punctuality and responsibility. Real work for the
satisfaction of making a difference. Paid job opportunities are sometimes
available.
